Free Immunization for the Senior Citizens

The local government of San Carlos encourages senior citizens to avail the Merck Sharp & Dohme’s (MSD) free pneumococcal vaccination, a vaccine against pneumonia on January 27, 2020.

City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo met with the MSD team for their advocacy campaign, “Bakunado si Lolo at Lola, Iwas Pulmonya” along with the heads and staff of the City Hospital and City Health during a meeting this morning, January 15 at his office.

Said program is in partnership with the Province of Negros Occidental and Department of Health in terms of immunizing senior citizens with the pneumococcal vaccine to provide protection against pneumonia which is one of the leading diseases among senior citizens.
MSD is a multi-company and manufacturer of medicines and vaccines based in United States but has been present in the Philippines, providing medicines for Filipinos for almost 25 years.
James Albert Reyes from MSD said the immunization is a tri-city initiative where Bacolod, Kabankalan and San Carlos will serve as host of the activity. He added that during the free immunization they will conduct an orientation about pneumonia and its effects.
