San Carlos City Lights Up As One Of The ASEAN Landmark Cities

San Carlos City in Negros Occidental of the Negros Island Region will light up as one of the 50 landmark cities in the Philippines in the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on August 8, 2017.

This year’s celebration of the ASEAN anniversary which the Philippines serves as host will also make San Carlos City go down in history as one of the iconic sites of the ASEAN, being the recipient of the 3rd ASEAN ESC Awards in 2014.

Said award was due to the exemplary initiatives to keep ASEAN cities clean, green and livable as they continue to grow as the center of economic activities which San Carlos City strived to sustain along its best programs and practices in environmental protection particularly cascaded to and implemented by the local schools and community.

Preparations for said big event include a motorcade representing the 10 member nations of the ASEAN in which the national and local government offices will participate including the 18 barangays and the private sector.

The actual simultaneous ASEAN lighting rites at 7:00 in the evening will be spiced up with activities including an ASEAN themed concert, cultural performances led by the Department of Education and fireworks display.

Four six-footer lanterns will be lighted on said event which also represent the four landmarks in San Carlos City.

Temporary closure of the roads near the city hall being the venue of said event will be observed from August 5 up to 8 in preparation of the various activities.

The City Tourism Office, Office for Human Resource Management and the Department of Education facilitate said celebration.
